Start/finish comes from the GPS track, not from a beacon you forgot to bring. Out-lap and in-lap are marked as such and kept out of your session best. Where a crossing is ambiguous โ pit exit, red flag, a cool-down tour โ the lap is flagged rather than quietly binned.
Three sectors by default, at the same points every session at that circuit, so lap 4 in April is comparable with lap 14 in August. Drag the splits if you'd rather cut at your own corners.
Pick a reference, pick a comparison, read the delta trace. Where the line climbs you're losing; where it drops you're gaining, and the corner it happened in is named. Speed, throttle, brake and steering if your logger recorded them.
